VIRGINIE EKLUND, CNM
Board Certified Nurse Midwife
Virginie Eklund grew up in Washington, D.C., where, in 2003, she received her undergraduate degree from the American University. After her daughter’s birth, she became interested in midwifery. The experience left her with the desire to become an agent of change and provide education and labor support following the midwifery model of care. In 2008, after graduating from nursing school and the birth of her son, she moved to Boulder, Colorado where she specialized in labor, delivery and postpartum nursing at the area’s top hospital for perinatal care.
Six years ago, she relocated to Connecticut with her family and worked as a nurse for both high and low-risk pregnant women at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. In 2017, Virginie received her Master’s degree in Nursing, along with her midwifery certification, from the Frontier Nursing University in Hyden, Kentucky. Her clinical experience was spent with midwives at Connecticut’s only accredited free-standing birth center. This experience solidified her passion for giving women options and helping them achieve their goal of a physiologic birth. Having managed both hospital and out-of-hospital births, she understands that women have individual needs and beliefs about labor and birth and should be given the tools to make informed decisions about their care. She is truly passionate about midwifery’s focus on education, evidenced-based practice, and individualized patient-centered care. She is a member of the American College of Nurse Midwives and active with its local affiliation.
She lives in Hamden with her husband Craig and two children, Zoe and Loic. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, photography, painting, yoga, and visiting family in France.
